A package containing an unidentified white powder was delivered to the Florida home of Donald Trump Jr. on Monday night.
A hazmat team responded after the former president’s son said he opened an envelope to discover the powdery substance along with a death threat. Several Daily Beast sources said Trump opened the letter personally, then notified authorities once he discovered its contents.
A spokesman for the 46-year-old political scion reportedly said investigators don’t believe the power was deadly, but it’s composition couldn’t immediately be determined.
Trump Jr. confirmed the delivery on social media by complaining that if such a thing happened to a prominent Democrat, Congress — which is controlled by Republicans — would hold hearings.
He shared a copy of the nonsensical letter that accompanied the white power with right-wing media outlet the Daily Caller. It expressed hope the entire Trump family would “dive into the Atlantic Ocean” when their plane goes “up in smoke.”
The former wife of the eldest Trump son was hospitalized in February 2018 after opening an envelope full of powder in her east Midtown Manhattan home. A Massachusetts man was arrested in connection with that mailing. The powder turned out to be nontoxic.
In 2016, envelopes packed with white powder were twice sent to Trump Tower, which served as the former president’s campaign headquarters.
